Prevention Of Identity Theft On The Road In Hotels, Bars And Restaurants

May 9th, 2008 MorrisE. Posted in Travel | No Comments »

It’s no secret that identity theft is on the rise. Walk into any big box office supply store and you will mounds and mounds of paper shredders meant to shred your personal documents and letters making it harder for an identity thieve to obtain your vital personal information. Sure you are safe at home and at the office but what about on the road, on your vacation, travel for work and conventions, and in hotels, bars and restaurants?

To begin with what is “identify theft”? Identity theft is where an “identity thief” commits fraud and indeed other crimes by assuming (or copying) your personal identity. Such information as your name, birth date, address, and social insurance, charge cards, banking account numbers and other information and identification can later be used to impersonate you for the purposes of stealing or acquiring even more money through access to your accounts, opening up accounts in other forms and banking and credit institutions. Amazingly some identity thieves will even seek “gainful” employment under your name and identity. At the end of the you guess who will be asked to pay the income taxes on those earnings? You of course. The amount of time that you will spend explaining yourself and your predicament to the I.R.S. among others will be more than substantial. Often as well many organizations will take an approach of pay up now and “we will (of course) refund your money after proper and full documentation is given”. Lots of luck and lots of fun. The summary is that if you are a victim of identity theft, you could be left with bills, bad credit and the hassle of dealing with financial agencies and police departments to clear your name. In addition dealing with the IRS can come into the picture as well.

What can you do to protect yourself against identity theft when traveling on the road and in distant hotels, bars and restaurants? First of all when you return from your trip always verify charges and bills. Keep receipts for cross referencing. You may want to check your credit statement and charges online ahead of time, rather than waiting for your hard copy bill to arrive by snail mail or email. This way you may catch mistakes ahead of time and nip problems in the “bud”. Add in the logistics of distance factors, time changes, staffing and phone bills and it becomes almost a nightmare. Indeed for some charges you may feel that it is not worth the time effort and costs.

First of all always ensure that after transactions that you have received the correct credit card in return by serving staff personnel and that you have not received other persons by mistake or on purpose. Next ensure that you do not leave personal documents or information just “lying “around your hotel or hotel meeting rooms. Its not a question of hotel staff – who may well be carefully screened and hired for personal honesty and integrity – but rather just “anybody” or “ anyone” who can just be strolling down the hall or indeed be trolling or on the prowl. Similarly computers left on and unprotected are targets as well. It’s not the computer so much now, but rather the data on it that is most valuable. On top of that if the computer is left behind and untouched, a sense of safety, honesty and data integrity is afforded to the victim, who may not know that their vital data, documentation and financial records and passwords have, been sequestered. All it takes is a split second and a run of the mill USB flash memory drive and all over. Shortly your credit card data, passwords or worse may be sold to thieves and emailed anywhere in the world. It’s best to employ some type of password entry to your computers, cell phone and blackberries and as well not leave such information in clear view.

You may think that it should be the responsibility of the hotel and its staff to protect you in such matters. If identity theft occurs to you in this manner you may well think that you can sue the hotel and that the hotel should compensate you for you troubles and more. On top of everything else you may demand an all expense paid trip to Hawaii in the hotel chains 4 star resort. Lots of luck. While it may be true that hotels and the service industry are most concerned about their reputation and maintaining high service levels in their hotels and establishments they can only do so much , and provide a certain level of safety and security. It’s up to you to protect yourself. Imagine the wasted time, energy and cost you can save yourself by being vigilant and proactive when it comes to your own security and protecting yourself from identity theft while traveling on the road – whether it be in hotels and restaurants – either for business travel or for your personal vacations.

Proper Batting Helmet Sizing

May 9th, 2008 UncleBooYah Posted in Sports | No Comments »

It’s a sad fact that one of the number one reasons for sports related injuries among children is that they were wearing sports equipment that was ill-sized or weren’t wearing it at all. When you consider how hard a baseball or softball actually is and how fast and hard they are thrown even in children’s games; the damage that can be done by the impact of a ball to a child’s head is enormous. One of the reasons many children give that don’t wear their safety gear such as batting helmets, at all times during a game is that the batting helmets aren’t comfortable. Usually once a parent looks into it, they will find it is not really the batting helmet at all, in all actuality it is a case of the batting helmet not being fitted to the child properly.

No one has to tell you that your child should be wearing a helmet at all times and you can help make that a reality for every game if you work with your child when you’re buying a batting helmet and make sure that the batting helmet fits comfortably so the child will be protected as well as comfortable while playing.

A batting helmet should fit snugly but not so snug your child has a headache. When the child moves his head from side to side the helmet should stay in place not move around. Inability to see due to a helmet shift is another reason that injuries sometimes happen, make sure that your child has a well fitted helmet by doing a little smart batting helmet sizing for your child before you buy.

The foam on the interior of the helmet is a must-have for your child’s safety. It keeps the head away from the outer shell of the helmet in the event of an impact. While the odds are not high that your child will get beaned with a ball when playing, you need to prepare for something like that “just in case” and your child’s head will be protected in the small chance that something like that happens.

Last word, don’t skimp on the batting helmet that you choose. You’re basically buying safety and you don’t want cheap safety. You want the best you can get and that may be the difference between purchasing some unknown off-brand with questionable plastic parts and may or may not have quality foam and a name brand that has been inspected and meets safety standards. Choose the batting helmet that will offer the ultimate protection and one that is properly sized for your child.

Use these tips and make sure that you get the best fitting helmet for your child. When you have a properly fitted batting helmet, you may just find you have the opposite problem and you can’t get your kid to take it off - even to go to sleep at night!

Why Holiday In The Algarve? 6 Reasons To Visit Portugal’s South Coast

May 9th, 2008 DanielEyre Posted in Travel | No Comments »

Without doubt the best sellers on Search Travel Online are holidays to mainland Spain. This is no surprise, and there are plenty of reasonably priced escapes in the sun to be had around Spain, but I do think people are missing out by not choosing to take a cheap holiday in the Algarve with us. Portugal’s south coast is easily the equal of mainland Spain in many respects, and even nicer in others.

So here, without further ado is 6 reasons you should consider a bargain holiday in the Algarve the next time you head abroad:

Wonderful Weather

As you might expect from Southern Europe, the weather is excellent all year round, but to my mind the Algarve even manages to eclipse mainland Spain. Never too hot, with a pleasant ocean breeze, the Algarve is at it’s hottest in July and August where it averages 28 degrees centigrade, but even at its coldest in January it is still 15 degrees, with over 6 hours of sunshine per day! Whether you’re planning on heading in the peak of summer, or escaping the miserable British winter for warmer climes, cheap package holidays in the Algarve are bound to provide ample serotonin.

Brilliant Beaches

With more than 30 beaches in the Algarve region, it’s fair to say you should easily manage to find at least a handful that you love! The variety also means there are beaches for all occasions – family friendly, shallow beaches, some ideal for windsurfing and water sports, some romantic secluded beaches ideal for couples to walk hand-in-hand along – but all of them drenched in the sunshine, relaxation and good times: The spirit of Algarve package holidays!

Great Golf

What’s the perfect relaxed game to compliment the cheap Algarve holiday staple of lounging lazily on the beach in splendid weather? Golf of course! There are 19 golf courses in the Algarve meaning that, like the beaches, you’re sure to find a couple to your tastes. The most famous is undoubtedly the world renowned Royal Course known for its famous Par 3 hole that requires a shot of more than 200 metres over 3 breathtaking cliffs! The other courses are all entertaining though, and the sheer density of quality venues means you’re never far from a swift round if the mood takes you on a cheap package holiday in the Algarve!

Fantastic Food

One of the simple pleasures of a bargain holiday in the Algarve is dining in the local restaurants – and this usually comes an a very reasonable price, explaining perhaps why eating out is far more common in the region than it is in the UK. It’s quite normal to get a quality meal for £8-£10 per person, including wine. The food is mostly prepared using local ingredients, so expect quality seafood on the coast, and spiced chicken and pork dishes as you move more inland. For those who refuse to indulge in the local cuisine (you’re missing out) there are a handful of places selling English food for the tourists, so you needn’t feel homesick for long on your cheap holiday in the Algarve!

Captivating Culture

Okay, bullfighting may not be everyone’s idea of culture, but there are plenty of other reasons to leave the beach on your Algarve holiday. There are seasonal music, art and drink festivals throughout the year, and you are never far away from a fascinating local art gallery or museum to get a greater feel for the region’s history during your bargain Algarve holiday.

Noteworthy Nightlife

The nightlife of the Algarve is certainly varied, and for once it’s fair to say there really is something for everyone, with a clear divide between the club scene and local cultural, relaxed evenings under the Portuguese stars. Starting with the club scene, the best bet is Albufeira, where you can party into the early hours at a wide selection of nightclubs and bars, particularly popular with English and German tourists. It may not be as well known as Ibiza or Majorca, but the Algarve is something of a nightlife gem.

The alternative to this is enjoying a night of Algarve culture. If your idea of a pleasant evening is a quiet dinner of seafood, followed by some live fado folk music or dancing in a bar, ending with a pleasant promenade under the stars, then maybe the Algarve alternative nightlife is ideal for you afterall!

This is all just scraping the surface of what makes cheap Algarve holidays such a fantastic choice for British tourists, but the best way to discover the magic of the region is to go there. If you’ve been on the fence about booking a cheap package holiday to the Algarve, delay no longer – you won’t regret it!

The Christmas Angels And The Sheppard’s

May 9th, 2008 JoeWill Posted in Short Stories | No Comments »

A Story of Angels Visiting the Sheppard’s.

After Jesus was born in Bethlehem an angel of Christmas appeared to the shepherds telling them of the Christ Childs birth. This is a fictional story of two of the trumpeting angels that had always been best of friends. The two angels were easily recognized. One of the angels wore a robe of sunset pink and the other angel dressed in a sky blue robe. The two angel friends were renowned for their sweet duets they played on their pure silver trumpets for the glorification of the Lord. All the other angels would gather around to listen as the duet played their harmonious tunes. Honored for their musical ability, the trumpeting angels of Christmas were often asked to lead the orchestra with the first few notes of a song.

One day the orchestra members were called together for an exciting announcement. At the beginning of one of the practice session, the orchestra leader Temira said, “Lift up your instruments, and lift up our hearts.” The Lord was preparing to send his Son to live among and teach the Lords messages to the people on earth. A jubilee of music was planned for this monumental event. Every sweet, angelic voice would sing, every musical instrument would play. “Who can explain the importance of our newest assignment?” asked Temira. The trumpeting angel in pink stood and spoke. “The Lord has commanded that we appear on a cold winter night to the shepherds in the hills of Bethlehem. These shepherds might fear the us. They have never even seen one of us before, much less a sky filled with heavenly angels.” Then the angel in blue continued, “We will fill the shepherd’s hearts with the joy of our music. Their fear will be replaced with love, and then we will tell the shepherds about the Savior and his birth in a stable located in Bethlehem.” “Wonderful!” said Temira with a smile. Honored to be part of the jubilee, all of the orchestra members planned to practice their parts to perfection. They hurried away, discussing the duet that would start the concert.

Finally, the evening came when the Lord’s Son was born in a tiny stable in the city of Bethlehem. According to the plan, the heavenly angels of Christmas would appear first to the shepherds in the hills outside the little village of Bethlehem. The entire host of musical angels stationed themselves on that cold winter night in the dark sky. On cue, the trumpeting angels lifted their instruments and played the first few notes of the world’s most glorious concert. As their music filled the sky, the shepherds looked up in amazement. Their hearts were filled with the awesome glory of God. The angels told the shepherds of the good tidings of great joy, the angels were joined by a host of angels singing “Glory to god in the highest, and on earth peace, good will to men” and they praised God. After the angels had departed the Sheppard’s in their amassment were thrilled and humbled at what they had just witnessed. The Sheppard’s decided to follow the angel’s directions and they took part in the greatest adventure of all time.

Your Golf Psychology Tip

May 9th, 2008 BradMyers Posted in Sports | No Comments »

Many amateurs do not fully utilize a golf psychology tip to help them shoot lower scores. Professionals are much better at monitoring their bodies and emotions. Of course, they also have caddies, coaches and other parts of their entourage keeping an eye on them to make sure that they are using the correct golf psychology tip. The regular folk like us do not have this luxury however, there are some things that we can monitor and do to help us relax if we get tense on the golf course:

· Golf Psychology Tip – Monitoring your breathing is a very effective way to calm yourself down. The best part is that you can do this at anytime. Whether we have realized it or not, all of us have started breathing faster on the first tee of a tournament. To give yourself a baseline, practice at home. Monitor your breathing at home when you are relaxed and notice how much tension in your body, how fast you are breathing and are you breathing from the top of your stomach or your lower stomach.

· Golf Psychology Tip – Another thing that you can monitor is your walking pace. Again, this is a very effective way to calm yourself down and you can monitor your walking pace at anytime. Although most of us guys would rather go to an insurance seminar than to go to the mall, you might earn some bonus points with the spouse by going to the mall and walking. On your mall walk, you would be able to monitor what is a slow pace, what is a comfortable pace and what is a fast pace. In addition, try walking at different paces during the day and monitor how your body feels at the different rates.

· Golf Psychology Tip - Focus on your pre-shot routine – once you have a pre-shot routine ingrained then this is a good way to click into auto-pilot. It is critical that your pre-shot routine is repetitive and does not waver. A change could cause anxiety and mis-trust in your golf swing.

· Golf Psychology Tip – Picturing a calm place such as a beach or a lake will also calm you down. This may sound a little corny to some but, it works. It is probably my favorite golf psychology tip. We visit my in-laws from time to time. They live in the middle of Kentucky horse country. It makes it easy to relax away from the usual city life. To give you a clearer picture, in this particular county you may only purchase land in five acre plots or more. While we are there, I walk everyday and there is a big barn that sits on tops of a hill in the distance. These walks are very relaxing. The Kentucky quarter happens to have a picture on the back of the coin that reminds me of that barn that I look at on my walk. When I mark my ball with a Kentucky quarter, I am able to remember my relaxing walks and I can feel my body relax right there on the putting green. You need to find your place whether it is the beach for you, your back yard or a sunset. The point is it does not really matter as long as it relaxes you.

Pick the golf psychology tip that will work best for you or use them all. Being able to monitor your body tension, monitor your breathing or having a place to go to during your round could just be the golf psychology tip that you need to allow your best performance!

Rent a car in Palermo and you’ll discover a whole different side to the beautiful island of Sicily. Driving along windswept coastlines and villages allows you to experience the true essence of Sicily. The best thing about hiring a car in Sicily is that you can explore the island at a pace that suits you. The following is a guide to the island and how best to spend your time there.

Palermo Mini Guide:

Palermo Airport is situated 32km outside of the city of Palermo. The airport offers a range of facilities and services including banks, ATMs and a foreign exchange for those last minute euros. The airport serves a number of airlines including Alitalia, Air Malta and budget airline Ryanair.

Things To See/Do in Palermo:

Palermo is the capital of the Italian island of Sicily. The city centre is a good place to make a walking tour and offers a range of cultural and architectural attractions including Piazza Pretoria, Piazza Cassa di Risparmio and the church of La Martorana. The cathedral of Monreale, which dates back to 1185, is another historical gem, definitely worth a visit, as well as the fabulous Baroque architecture of the Quattro Canti.

The island of Sicily offers plenty of car hire touring opportunities. Five miles outside of the city centre is the medieval city of Monreale, which boasts a Norman cathedral and mosaics dating back to 1185. This historical gem is definitely worth a visit. Sicily is famous for its beautiful beaches, most of which are within a short drive of the city. A recommended Palermo car hire excursion is the coastal resort of Mondello Bay. Eating Out/Nightlife/Accommodation in Palermo:

Eating out in Sicily is relatively cheap, given the variety of local produce in the area. Local specialities include Pasta con le Sarde-pasta with sardines and wild fennel and pesce spada alla ghiotta-swordfish cooked in onion and tomato sauce.

Cheap local eats can be sampled at rustic restaurants including Trattoria Trapani, located at piazza Giulio Cesare, where diners are guaranteed to pay less for a typical Sicilian meal of squid, pasta and a carafe of local wine.

Those looking for lunch with a view should look no further than Piazza Marina, where good quality seafood restaurants are to be found dotted along the Marina.

How To Find A Father’s Day Golf Gift

May 9th, 2008 BradMyers Posted in Sports | No Comments »

As Father’s day is right around the corner, you, like many others, are in need of an idea for a father’s day golf gift and have no idea where to begin. You can relax. We are going help you and steer you in the right direction and you will be able to find the perfect father’s day golf gift. We are going to give you a couple of hints to find out what they may want before we make our purchase.

First, go straight to the horse’s mouth. Simply go to the golfer themselves and ask them what they would like. Whether you are a golfer or not, you can still do a little snooping around their golf bag. Do the grooves on their wedges look worn? Have they been talking about a new driver? Are they looking for a new set of irons? If you know they are going to be purchasing a new set of golf clubs or a driver in the near future, you can get them a club fitting done by a certified club fitter in your area. You can always just be more direct and just ask them what they would like. If you are not comfortable with this, purchasing a gift certificate at their golf shop could be another idea.

Another great place to get ideas for a father’s day golf gift is to simply ask their golfing buddies. They should be able to fire off some suggestions for a father’s day golf gift that will excite your golfer as the golfing buddies are the ones who get to hear all of the good and bad about your golfer’s game. You could always give them a two or three day golf trip with you or their friends! If they do go with their friends, it would seem only fair that then you could take a two or three day trip of your choice! Oh wait, we are trying to find a father’s day golf gift for them and not something for us. Focus!

Asking their golf professional is one more good resource to find specific father’s day golf gift ideas for your golfer. If your golfer is taking lessons, then this becomes a no-brainer. Their golf professional should be able to give you a couple of creative ideas in various price ranges. The professional’s ideas could be a golf club or a golf training aid that they have had their eye on in the golf shop. Usually, the golf professional will also be able to wrap and ship the father’s day golf gift, if needed, making it a one stop shop.

In an attempt to find the perfect father’s day golf gift, use the resources listed above. Ask questions of their golf professional, the golfing buddies and the golfer themselves. In addition, keep in mid that you can always purchase a gift certificate. A gift certificate may be useful if your golfer does not live near to you. The good part about it is that the golfer could then use the funds to purchase or towards the purchase of something they would really want and properly fits them. In addition, it would save you the worry and time of trying to be perfect. With the gift certificate you know in the end they will receive the perfect father’s day golf gift.

Beginner Golf Tips

May 9th, 2008 BradMyers Posted in Sports | No Comments »

You are interested in playing golf and are looking for beginner golf tips. You have found the right article to help you do that! As everyone knows the game of golf is not always cheap to play. However, before you fully commit yourself to the game, there are ways to get a little taste before you buy the cow. Again, reading these beginner golf tips before you dive in can save you time and money.

Beginner Golf Tips – Get A Putter That Fits You - The first thing that I would suggest that you do is to get a putter that fits you. It does not need to be fancy or the top of the line but it does need to fit you. The local PGA Professional or club-maker can help you with this. Drop balls just a few feet from the hole and start your new adventure! Do not make the mistake of trying to make a bunch of 50 foot putts.

Beginner Golf Tips – Buy A Club At A Time - You do not need a full set of golf clubs to get started. You can start to take lessons or learn the game around the greens (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED) by using just a pitching wedge. As you get better, you can add clubs to your set. Most players, as they start, tend to hit many of their clubs the same distance just because they do not know how to use the club properly yet.

Beginner Golf Tips – Lessons: To play the game so that you can enjoy it, you will need some professional instruction. Lessons can be found in many different forms. There are individual lessons as well as clinics. Obviously with the individual lessons, you are the star and all the attention will be placed on you. These lessons are more expensive but again, you are one on one with the instructor. Clinics are a great way to first get involved in golf. You will be meeting other people with your skill level and will have the potential to meet some playing partners from your class.

Beginner Golf Tips – Finding An Instructor: We suggest to go about this as you would look for a doctor or any other professional. Ask your friends that play who they have had success with in the past. Also, do not be afraid to interview a new professional. They would be more than happy to sit down with you and discuss where you are, where you want to go and how are you going to get there. If you are comfortable, great! If not move on to the next instructor.

Beginner Golf Tips – Training and Resources: Wireless Golf Coach is a great place to find free golf instruction articles written by PGA Professionals as well as any full swing golf instruction aids or putting training aids that can help you quickly improve your game.

Beginner Golf Tips – Rules and the Regulations: You will need to learn some of the simple rules when you are ready to out onto the golf course. DO NOT get bogged down in them. The Rules of Golf is very complicated. You will need to learn proper etiquette and a couple of the major rules. Again, your PGA Professional should be happy to help you with that. The USGA.org has the rule book posted online as well as quizzes for you to test your knowledge.

Use these beginner golf tips and start to enjoy the great game of golf. If you have any golf related questions, ask your question at The Wireless Golf Coach – A Question and Answer. This blog is hosted by PGA Professionals that could easily use your on our question board.
